Getting Spooktacular
Did you know that we are bringing back Trunk or Treat for our Holloway students and families? This year we will be having this spooktacular event on Monday, November 1st from 6:30-8:00 in the Holloway Elementary School parking lot. We are inviting all community members who would like to donate candy to visit the school - we have a drop-off area in the elementary office.
We will have a DJ, costume parade, food to purchase and will be giving away gift certificates for costumes and best decorated trunk! We hope to make this a huge community event and are excited to fill the parking lot with tricks, treats and fun!If you would like to attend the event or are interested in decorating a Trunk, please rsvp to Hollowayassoc.parents\@gmail.com or follow their Facebook Page.
The Buzz at Holloway
As the weather gets cooler, we'd like to remind families to encourage students to dress for outside recess. The mornings have been cooler, so layering is beneficial. Students benefit greatly from getting outside to socialize, run, play and take a mask break.
Last week, we celebrated Red Ribbon Week. We had daily activities to promote students making healthy choices and staying*drug/substance free*. While we did not host Halloween activities-some families volunteered to share trinkets (stickers, pencils, coloring pages) and we provided an extra snack and juice for students. Our Trunk or Treat is scheduled for Monday, November 1st from 6:30-8:00 to give students the opportunity to wear their costumes, get lots of treats and for the community to gather together again.
Important Reminders:
- Parent/Teacher Conferences - there will be an opportunity for Parent/Teacher Conferences this year. Efforts will be made to schedule convenient times for families to meet with teachers to support each student's success
- School Counselor Mrs. Cowell has a message for all families - we are getting into the groove of the school year with the end of the first trimester quickly approaching! All students are being instructed on the character traits of the month which align with the district's Portrait of a Graduate. In September, we discussed adaptability and what that looks like at the elementary level. Students developed skits to display an example of someone showing adaptability, and Mr. Schneider and I loved showing off our acting skills to the students with our own example skits. For October, students worked to display self-control. In November, we will be discussing perseverance. As weather changes and we approach the holiday season, perseverance will be important so all of our academic and social goals can be achieved! Each month, teachers have chosen a student who best exemplified the trait, and a pizza party will be held at the end of the trimester for our winners. If you have any questions about the character traits for each month, feel free to reach me at taracowell\@springfield-schools.org.
- SEL Coach Mr. Schneider wants everyone to know that since the start of the school year, all students have been earning Buzz Bucks for positive behavior in all school settings. Now that the first trimester is coming to an end we will hold our first Buzz Buck store! Students will be able to spend their Buzz Bucks on items at our school store. The PBIS team has worked hard to order items that we feel students will enjoy. Students will have the opportunity to buy candy, fidget toys, pencils, experiences (lunch with Mr. Schneider, Mrs. Ratliff, or Mrs. Cowell, help with bus duty, or help call afternoon busses), and stickers. We are proud of the students for their positive behavior and are excited to reward them with this store. Keep up the good work Holloway Hornets! A letter came home on Friday, October 4, 2021 to sign up for a PBISrewards account. By creating this account you can see how many Buzz Bucks your child(ren) are receiving. In the event that you need another letter, please reach out to me at bryanschneider\@springfield-schools.org and I can get you another one. We would love to have as many parents as possible signed up so families can see how many Buzz Bucks students are earning.
CHARACTER TRAIT--ADAPTABILITY
Students were nominated by their teachers for displaying the characteristic of a*daptability*. These students respond productively to feedback in order to negotiate and balance diverse views and beliefs to reach workable and flexible solutions. In an elementary school setting, this looks like listening to feedback from peers and adults and responding appropriately, noticing when a situation or plan is changing and do their best to embrace the change and thinking of new ways to solve a problem. This aligns with the district's Portrait of a Graduate Character Traits.
